danganronpa: trigger happy havoc

i'm one of those danganronpa fans that never actually played the games, and even worse, only watched the anime for trigger happy havoc. so i never really cared about THH, thinking it was the weakest of the mainline games... i can't really say it changed because it's been such a long time since i watched the other 2 games, but i definitely appreciate it a lot more now.

one of the only things that i experienced for the first one was the gameplay. actually playing it instead of just watching is so much better, the class trials are SO FUN!! it didn't even matter if i already knew all the culprits (i think it made me feel smarter lol). a random complaint i have is the mechanic where you have to "absorb" other character's statements to refute someone. a lot of times i knew what i needed to refute, but couldn't figure out what statement to absorb (maybe i'm just stupid). also the murder plans were really simple, like yes i already knew what was going to happen and it does make sense teenagers wouldn't come up with the most elaborated murders ever, BUT i liked the class trial gameplay so much that i wish they were harder :(

i liked most of the cast! i think even characters that die early have enough screentime and personality for people to like them (except leon maybe but i don't like him). i really like the female characters in this game, they feel more fleshed out than most of the male ones, which is a nice surprise. my favorites are sayaka, makoto and junko (i actually mean mukuro but shhh) :3

the story (and entire game tbh) IS "corny" but i don't mind (can't lie that near the end of chapter 6 i GASPED when the opening started playing, it's so cliché but.... it's so cool too........)

i LOVE LOVEEE the soundtrack, it fits the game so well and i even listen to some tracks when working on this website or drawing. my favorite one is box 15.

would i recommend danganronpa? i think it's such a popular and iconic game that you definitely should at least try it! you probably shouldn't trust my opinion though, i am clearly a fan.

what a cute game... if i was making one of those "cozy game recommendations" videos i would definitely include tearaway. the bright papercraft visuals and lack of punishment when you die makes it feel like a game for children, but in a good way! relaxing game that you can turn off your brain while playing.

before starting this, i thought that the controls and overall game would feel gimmicky and awkward, since it uses all the vita's extra features (cameras, touchpads, etc), but it felt pretty natural actually. looking at my face in the sun was funny.

i believe this is a game you should take your time and try to collect as much as you can on your first playthrough, otherwise it will feel very short. replaying the levels to collect all extra stuff was still fun, but not as fun as the first time.

overall, tearway is an adorable and charming game i would recommend to anyone who owns a ps vita :D
